We may not be aware of them, but we use standards every day, in all aspects of our daily lives – in communications, media, healthcare, food, transport, construction, furniture, energy…
One category however where standards are devoid is the cosmetics/personal care industry, unless of course you are purchasing a certified organic, natural, or made in the EU product. So, let's just pretend for one moment you live in the EU, or are buying an EU product here in the US, what exactly would that mean for you personally;
Safety and reliability – Adherence to standards helps ensure safety, reliability and environmental care. As a result, users perceive standardized products and services as more dependable – this in turn raises user confidence, increasing sales and the take-up of new technologies.
Support of government policies and legislation – Standards are frequently referenced by regulators and legislators for protecting user and business interests, and to support government policies. As an example, Standards play a central role in the European Union's policy for a Single Market.
Consumer choice - Standards provide the foundation for new features and options, thus contributing to the enhancement of our daily lives. Mass production based on standards provides a greater variety of safer, more accessible products to consumers.
Now let's get back to reality [sorry] and see what we currently have here in the US and what that means for the consumer;
Ingredient labels that lack transparency
Ingredients of possible inferior quality
Manufacturers that legally test on animals
In extreme cases products that may be dangerous
Customers in the dark as to what is really in their products
Manufacturers can literally say and do as they wish
As a company that researches and develops to EU standards and are based in the US, we continue to be amazed by the blatant deceit that goes on in this industry. We've developed many formulas for many different companies and always, always press the importance of working to a higher standard that ensures peace of mind and full transparency for the consumer.
